The Territory Government has secured more than $10 million of water main piping to support future growth of oil and gas developments at Middle Arm and Blaydin Point.
Infrastructure Minister Adam Giles said the Territory Government had awarded a contract, for supplying and installing more than 13 kilometres of mild-steel cement-lined pipe, to water equipment specialist Pentair Pty Ltd.
Mr Giles said the NT Government was committed to putting in the necessary infrastructure to accommodate a thriving Territory.
“The water main provides for further development of the Middle Arm industrial area and will service Channel Point power station, Wickham Point LNG plant, the Ichthys LNG plant, and the Wickham Point Immigration Detention Centre,” Mr Giles said.
Mr Giles said the water main would be installed along Jenkins Road and run from the Stuart Highway to the Middle Arm industrial hub.
“The Country Liberals Government is committed to growing a three hub economy and planning properly for the future,” Mr Giles said.
“The water main will be installed in the road reserve over the coming months. It will run along the northern side of Jenkins Rd, under the railway, before joining the existing pipe system in Channel Island Road.”
Jenkins Road is located 35 kilometres from Darwin, just before Noonamah.
The 13.5 metre pipes will be manufactured interstate and transported to Darwin on triple road trains. Each trailer will carry about nine pipes – close to 30 pipes per road train.
Installation of the pipes is expected to cause minimal disruption to users of Jenkins Road as the majority of works are offset from the road.
The project is 100 per cent funded by the Northern Territory Government.
