The first Australia China Minerals Investment Summit (ACMIS) is currently being held in Darwin over three days to help attract business and mining opportunities to the Territory.
Chief Minister Adam Giles today attended the official opening of the ACMIS aimed at attracting a much larger audience of Chinese investors.
Mr Giles said ACMIS 2013 is shaping up to be a prestigious and unique event.
“The summit underpins the Territory’s plan to build the economy which has a strong focus on realising our mineral potential,” Mr Giles said.
“The Northern Territory has strong trade and economic links with China and is well placed to take advantage of the opportunities for commodities export. The purpose of the summit is to facilitate further business deals in the mining sector.
“Foreign investment plays an important role in the Territory’s economic development and provides capital to fund business expansion, while trade fosters economic development, creates jobs and raises the standard of living for all Territorians.
“We are pleased that Mr Yu Yi, Vice-Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce of Metals, Minerals and Chemicals Importers and Exporters will be attending, as well as Mr Hu Shanjun, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce of Australia.”
The summit will see a variety of speakers talk on topics ranging from investment opportunities to working with traditional owners.
ACMIS has attracted a strong number of exploration companies from both the Territory and South Australia, whose projects include commodities such as gold, silver, copper, diamonds and rare earths.
The summit will be held from 21-23 May at Darwin Convention Centre and is joint initiative of the Northern Territory and South Australian Governments.
