WILLEM VAN HOLTHE
MINISTER FOR PRIMARY INDUSTRY AND FISHERIES
Minister for Mines and Energy and Primary Industries and Fisheries, Willem Westra van Holthe has travelled to Canberra and Sydney to engage with interstate ministerial counterparts and Industry Association heads on Territory-related mining and agricultural issues.
Mr Westra van Holthe yesterday joined with Ministers on the Standing Council on Primary Industries (SCoPI) to continue work on the National Livestock Identification System.
"The work around traceability of our livestock is vital if we are to maintain sound biosecurity and robust, auditable procedures within our live export trade,” Mr Westra van Holthe said.
Mr Westra van Holthe also met with key stakeholders from the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) and the Minerals Council Australia and discussed strategies to grow the potential of the Territory across the mining and oil and gas sectors.
“These meetings are crucial to ensure we are appropriately engaging with industry, providing support for this important sector and striving for best-practice regulation for the Territory,” Mr Westra Van Holthe said.
Tomorrow, Mr Westra van Holthe will also be attending the Conference of State Parliamentarians to discuss future growth of the Territory economy in mining and agriculture and the importance of cross-jurisdictional collaboration in these vital areas.
