PETER STYLES
MINISTER FOR INFRASTRUCTURE
The Northern Territory Government is continuing to look after Territorians and ensure safety on our roads is paramount, with an upgrade to the Stuart Highway, Virginia Road intersection completed last week.
Minister for Infrastructure Mr Styles said the works were undertaken on the intersection to improve sight distance and improve the safety of the intersection.
“Obviously with the size of the Territory our road network is huge and it is our responsibility to continue to monitor the upkeep of all our roads for our users.
“With heavy vehicles frequently using our roads and tourists visiting our beautiful city, more and more vehicles are utilising our road network, and as a result we are continuing to monitor and ensure upgrades and improvements are undertaken as necessary,” he said.
“As well as improving sight distance, the works also included widening the turnings, installing traffic islands and installing more street lighting to provide improved visibility atnight.”
The works began in May 2013 and finished last weekend on schedule.
These works were funded by the Commonwealth Government as part of a five year Road Safety and Fatigue Management Program.
