New Book to Boost Mines and Energy Investment

Northern Territory Geological Survey’s book: The Geology and Mineral Resources of the NT.

The book is the first ever comprehensive description and detailed analysis of the geology, mineralogy and petroleum resources of the entire Northern Territory.

Minister Westra van Holthe said the book is designed to be an essential reference work for all geoscientists with an interest in the Northern Territory, particularly those involved with minerals and petroleum exploration.

“With the publication of this book, mineral and petroleum explorers have a single point of reference to access the latest in geological knowledge and understanding of the Territory’s resources,” Mr Westra van Holthe said.

“This book will not only be a definitive reference for existing explorers but will also act as a prospectus to attract further investments into the Territory.

“This book highlights the untapped potential of the Northern Territory and it is a pleasure to launch it on the eve of NT Resources Week.

“I congratulate the hard work of the people from the Department of Mines and Energy who have worked hard to pull this impressive piece of work together.”

The book includes descriptions of every named geological unit in the Territory as well as all significant mineral deposits and petroleum fields. It describes each geological province and basin in the Territory and also includes a summary of the Territory’s geological history. The book is over 1,100 pages and divided in to 42 chapters.

The volume is available as a hard copy book but will also be released digitally, including an online version, later this year.
