ROBYN LAMBLEY - MINISTER FOR HEALTH
The Northern Territory Government continues its commitment to providing quality health care for Territorians with the official opening of Tennant Creek Hospital’s upgraded emergency department.
Health Minister Robyn Lambley will today open the new facility and inspect the range of upgrades and additional features that will help to provide better services for people of the Barkly.
“This new emergency department will provide a modern facility for patients in need of emergency care, as well as an additional two treatment bays to meet the growing demands of the region,” Mrs Lambley said.
“It also includes five new trauma beds that are more sophisticated than ordinary trolley beds and allow for x-rays to be taken at the bedside.”
The concept for the facility was modelled on the contemporary design of Katherine Hospital’s emergency department completed last year.
The features of the new emergency department include:
“This upgrade will help to ensure patients in the Barkly have access to the best treatment available and will help to minimise waiting times,” Mrs Lambley said.
“The staff at the Tennant Creek Hospital do an admirable job and we’re committed to doing all we can to support them, as well as attracting new staff by offering a modern facility to work in.
“I would also like to applaud Alice Springs business MPH Carpentry and Construction for carrying out the building works to a consistently high quality.”
Funding for the $3.7 million upgrade was secured through the Commonwealth Government’s Health and Hospitals fund with the NT Government picking up the ongoing operational costs.
