PETER STYLES
MINISTER FOR INFRASTRUCTURE
One of the Territory’s major transport roads, the Tanami Road is set to undergo a safety upgrade, along with a stretch of the Santa Teresa Road, early next year.
Minister for Infrastructure Peter Styles said more than $1 million was set aside for gravel resheet and drainage repairs to be undertaken along two stretches of the Tanami and Santa Teresa roads.
“We are currently advertising tenders for upgrade work that will improve the road pavement for gravel road access in the wet weather as well as safety for all road users,” he said.
“Both sections of the roads are prone to wet weather closures and these works will improve the condition of the roads ensuring safety to all motorists.”
“The Tanami Road will see worn sections of road pavement lifted and reformed and gravel resheeting, as well as drainage repairs," he said.
“We continue to operate regular maintenance and capital works upgrades on this road, to ensure improved access and safety for all road users.
“The Northern Territory Government are funding these works as part of a specific program for NTG roads in Central Australia. “
The Santa Teresa Road works include preparation of the existing road pavement to improve shape and drainage and gravel resheeting to provide all weather road surfaces.
“The Santa Teresa Road is expected to receive further capital works funding for upgrades in the future, to ensure improved safety for road users is achieved, especially in wet weather,” he said.
“The funding is part of the Roads to Recovery Program under the Commonwealth Government.”
