Important Development for Alice Springs

Posted On February 20, 2014

MATT CONLAN - MINISTER FOR CENTRAL AUSTRALIA
PETER CHANDLER - MINISTER FOR LANDS, PLANNING AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The Alice Springs economy will be boosted with a major development to commence soon at the Old Alice Springs Bowling Club.

Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment Peter Chandler said the crown land was sold at auction this week to local company Asbuild NT Pty Ltd.

“The Country Liberals Government is continuing to put downward pressure on the cost of living by rolling out our urban infill program across the Territory,” Mr Chandler said.

“This 1.1Ha site could yield more than 60 dwellings and will be a huge boost for would-be homebuyers in Alice Springs.

“We know the cost of living is high in the Territory and the best way the Government can combat that is continuing to stimulate housing supply,” Mr Chandler said.

“The Country Liberals Government has a comprehensive infill land release program that will see sites like the Old Bowling Club site be made available for fast development.”

Minister for Central Australia Matt Conlan said the Old Alice Springs Bowling Club site had been left abandoned for far too many years.

“I am delighted that Asbuild NT Pty Ltd will now provide plans to rejuvenate the area and boost housing stocks in Alice Springs,” Mr Conlan said

“We understand that Alice Springs residents want innovative, sustainable and affordable housing solutions and this site has great potential to accommodate over 60 dwellings and stimulate the local construction industry.

“This is a major win for the Alice Springs community, with local business to benefit from the planned project.

“This is just another example of how the Country Liberals Government is making Alice Springs a priority, after 11 long years of neglect by the Labor party.

“We are fast tracking land release to provide more affordable housing and help with the cost of living; we’re identifying opportunities that will boost the local economy and creating more jobs for locals.”
