ROBYN LAMBLEY - MINISTER FOR HEALTH
The Northern Territory Government has today released the timeline to deliver the bigger and better Palmerston Regional Hospital.
Minister for Health Robyn Lambley says it’s another exciting step to improve the health and well-being of Territorians.
“Now that the scoping study has been completed, the Country Liberals are getting on with the job of delivering the Palmerston Regional Hospital,” Mrs Lambley said.
“We have already secured a bigger site – 15 times the size of Labor’s proposal - perfectly located along the Stuart Highway ensuring none of the traffic problems of Labor’s previous site.
“Preliminary survey works are progressing to get the necessary road works underway and the community can expect to see that action on the ground shortly.
“Next month, an environmental assessment will be undertaken.
“The Government is also currently finalising the procurement process and the Expressions of Interest process will be underway in July.”
It’s expected that design and civil work will begin by mid-2016.
“The Stage One Scoping Study shows the hospital will deliver an emergency department to respond to the needs of the Palmerston region.
“It will also provide medical and surgical services including cardiology, renal medicine, cancer services, paediatric, antenatal and postnatal obstetric services, with birthing services to be delivered as part of Stage Two.”
The Country Liberals Government has also released a concept design for the Palmerston Regional Hospital.
“Work is progressing well on what will be a signature project for this Country Liberals Government,” Mrs Lambley said.
“This project will ensure we meet the growing health needs of Darwin, Palmerston and the Rural Area for decades to come.”
