PETER STYLES - MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT
A review of the Darwin bus network is well underway to explore options to improve Darwin’s public transport network.
Minister for Transport Peter Styles said a review into the Darwin public transport network was launched earlier this year and the initial feedback was positive.
“The Giles Government is looking at ways to make our public transport a better service for the community and visitors,” Mr Styles said.
“We want to make public transport an attractive safe and reliable alternative to car travel for the community.
“Our government has a strategic focus to improve our public transport with an emphasis on improving accessibility and supporting our growing economy and society.”
A draft revised network structure is being designed to improve the usefulness of the system by reducing existing complexity, improving connections, integrating with land use planning and improving service frequency.
Mr Styles said the next steps in the Darwin Public Transport Network Review would include:
The review aims to achieve Government’s commitment to improve the public transport network and forms a key component in the development of a Public Transport Strategy for the Territory.
“Darwin’s public transport network has not been properly reviewed for many years and this is a high priority,” Mr Styles said.
“There are more than 5.2 million passenger trips per year on the greater Darwin public transport network and we want to be able to continue to offer the most efficient, cost effective mode of traveling.
“This review is part of our government’s plan to provide safe, reliable and comfortable public transport and we want to continue to provide this to our community.”
