Minister for Infrastructure, Minister for Transport
Work will begin this month on the construction of a new bridge across the Charlotte River, on route to Dundee Beach.
Allan King and Sons have been awarded the $3.05 million contract to commence work on this vital infrastructure asset on June 23.
Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Peter Styles said the two lane, forty metre long bridge was greatly needed to allow better access across the Charlotte River on the Fog Bay Road.
"The Giles Government has listened to the community’s concerns and will deliver on this vital infrastructure asset,” Mr Styles said.
“This bridge is necessary to provide improved flood immunity to residents and visitors to Fog Bay and Dundee Beach.
“This is part of our government’s ongoing commitment to developing remote and regional Australia.”
Member for Daly Gary Higgins said he had received many requests from his constituents about the need for this bridge and had lobbied hard to see this bridge being built.
“The Giles Government has listened and is continuing to deliver transport and infrastructure assets to regional areas with a massive $1.14 billion in the 2014-15 budget for key infrastructure to continue building the Territory’s strong future.
“Our government has also delivered for the Dundee/Finniss community by improving immunity at various other creek crossings,” Mr Higgins said.
Mr Styles said there would be traffic management and detours in place although traffic disruptions would be minimal.
“Please obey all signage and drive carefully in the area while the works are taking place,” Mr Styles said.
