The Northern Territory Government has released a tender for works on a new health clinic at Canteen Creek, as part of the $50 million program to build and upgrade health centres in the bush.

“A tender has been released to build a new Canteen Creek health centre, including the construction of consulting rooms, ambulance bay and emergency room,” Minister for Infrastructure Peter Styles said.

“The Federal Government funded tender is expected to be awarded by early November, with work to be completed mid-2015.

“This is an exciting step for Canteen Creek residents whose wish for an upgraded health clinic has long been ignored under former Labor Governments.”

Minister for Health Robyn Lambley said the new Canteen Creek health clinic is part of the program that includes seven new health centres and upgrades to four existing remote health centres.

“The brand new $6 million Ntaria health centre has been completed and I’m looking forward to visiting the clinic next month,” Mrs Lambley said.

“The project has been delivered on budget and on schedule and it provides a bigger, better and more culturally appropriate health centre with dedicated spaces for a range of health services.

“A contract has also been awarded for the upgrade of the Maningrida health centre, with work to begin in a matter of weeks.

“The tender for the Papunya health centre has also been issued and closes late next month, with the tender for an upgrade to the Docker River health clinic expected to be released later this month.

“The tender for a new health centre at Elliott is expected to be released in October, with tenders for the new Galiwinku health centre, and an upgrade to the Titjikala health clinic to be issued in November.

“These new health clinics and upgrades have been long called for by remote Territorians, but nothing was progressed under Labor.

“Only the Federal Coalition and the Country Liberals Government can deliver health and infrastructure projects in the bush to improve health outcomes for those most seriously disadvantaged and most in need of assistance.”
