Willem Westra van Holthe
Deputy Chief Minister of the Northern Territory

The Country Liberals Government is delivering for the Katherine Region with $2.75 million dedicated to roads across the region.
Deputy Chief Minister, Willem Westra van Holthe said the Katherine Region is an important regional centre for the Territory and the government has recognised this through a $2.75 million investment.
“Today I would like to announce that our Government will continue working with the Katherine Town Council by providing $1.5 million towards the upgrading of the Leight Creek Crossing (known locally as Nixon’s Crossing).” Mr Westra van Holthe said.
“The Leight Creek crossing on Emungalan Road has been an issue for local residents for some time. Wet season access has been an issue in the past and the Country Liberals Government and the Katherine Town Council will be working with locals to fix this.
“Emungalan Road supports many Territorians and will provide better access.” Mr Westra van Holthe said.
“I’ve lobbied my colleagues hard on this issue to obtain the necessary funding, so today’s announcement is just the best news.”
Design will commence this year with works to follow in the 2016 dry season.
Selected sections of Carbeen Park and Gundagai Roads will also be upgraded as part of the $2.75 million commitment.
