Territorians are reaping the benefits of $1.2 billion worth of infrastructure projects right across the Territory as the Government delivered its 2014-15 financial year infrastructure program.
Minister for Infrastructure Peter Chandler said the infrastructure program was framed at developing the Territory through job creation and economic development.
“A total of 948 contracts were awarded, spending $515 million worth on infrastructure projects,” Mr Chandler said.
“The $515 million was expended across Capital Works, Minor New Works and Repairs and Maintenance for all Northern Territory Government clients.
“We saw $215 million invested in roads, $300 million on infrastructure of which 96.5 per cent was awarded to local companies across the Northern Territory providing a consistent pipeline of works for small to medium enterprises.
“Infrastructure is a key economic enabler and essential for the Northern Territory’s future economic development.
“Public and private infrastructure investment will support investors in making commercial decisions to invest in the Northern Territory, creating new opportunities and jobs and lay the foundation for building a prosperous economy,” Mr Chandler said.

Mr Chandler said following the success of the 2014-15 infrastructure program, Budget 2015 saw an injection of $1.4 billion to further develop the Territory.
“All of the projects will play a part in developing Northern Australia, they will create real jobs and opportunities for local contractors and small businesses,” Mr Chandler said.
“As a government we want to develop the Territory through job creation and economic development and connect Territorians through infrastructure with roads, schools and health and sporting facilities.”
