The Northern Territory government is developing a master plan for the creation of a commercial general aviation precinct at Batchelor Airport.
Transport Minister, Peter Chandler, said the master plan would assist with identifying opportunities for an aviation hub.
“The Batchelor Airport is well-placed for a master plan process – we want to see the airport develop into a thriving hub which provides a great destination and offers locals all the economic benefits which would come with a future general aviation precinct,” said Chandler.
“It is timely that a master plan be developed to ensure the airport and aviation precinct is appropriately developed to meet the needs of the aviation industry and the community.
Rehbein Airport Consulting has been selected to help with the process, with a previous focus on regional airports.
Member for Daly, Gary Higgins, welcomed the start of the master planning process.
“The Batchelor Airport receives charter flights and is the location for recreational parachuting and gliding clubs,” Higgins said.
“This move will give the airport a planned approach to growth while supporting the current users and enable stakeholders to have input to the plan for developing the airport into a commercial aviation precinct in the future.”
The master plan is expected to be finalised mid next year.
