Tender applications are open for the construction of a new $5.5 million child and family centre in Larapinta in Alice Springs.
Chief Minister, Adam Giles, said Larapinta was one of the Territory's fastest growing regions.
"The Larapinta child and family centre will provide 70 new childcare places and high quality education programs and services for children and their families," Giles said.
"The new centre will help to meet a growing need for childcare in Alice Springs for children from birth to five years of age.”
The child care centre will be located at Larapinta primary school to allow siblings of different ages to interact with each other.
Larapinta child and family centre will become the sixth of its kind in the Northern Territory, along with recent developments in Gunbalanya, Maningrida and Ngukurr.
"Delivering high quality place based education and care programs for children from birth to five years of age will develop strong and confident children ready to begin school. It also increases the capacity of parents and carers to support their child's development," he said.
"Families will be actively engaged in determining the range and nature of programs and services that will be provided from the centre based on the needs of young children and families in the region."
The Northern Territory government has committed $5.5 million for the centre in the 2015/16 Budget.
Construction is scheduled to commence in December 2015.
