The Northern Territory government is upgrading Lambells Lagoon Conservation Reserve and Harrison Dam Conservation Reserve.
Northern Territory Minister for Parks and Wildlife, Bess Price, says the government is committed to creating high-quality infrastructure.
“It is exciting to announce the commencement of works at Lambells Lagoon Conservation Reserve and Harrison Dam Conservation Reserve,” Price said.
“This will ensure that future waterfowl hunting seasons will be safe and more accessible for all Territorians.”
More than $200,000 will be spent in upgrades, including the installation of a levee bank and sluice gate.
The total area of the Lambells Lagoon will also increase and a firebreak and fence will be installed to help protect and manage the Reserve.
President of the NT Field and Game Association, Gavin Lovelock, said territory hunters were looking forward to the improvements.
“This is a terrific initiative by the NT Government. NT Field and Game have been scratching around the edges trying to improve these areas for all hunters to enjoy for some time now and to see this government move on suggested ideas is very exciting,” Lovelock said.
“We look forward to seeing expanded hunting areas within the two reserves through greater surface areas along with improved access, as these ecosystems develop the benefits will be ongoing.”
The reserves are used primarily for waterfowl hunting.
