The $6 million Australian-first biological filtration-system water treatment plant has opened today on the banks of the Adelaide River.
Deputy Chief Minister, Willem Westra van Holthe, said the water treatment plant would provide vital services for surrounding residents.
“This plan is the result of the combined skills and talents of people in the Power and Water Corporation and contractors Suez environnement and Goodline,” Holthe said.
“It is a significant piece of public infrastructure which is using first class technology for the first time in Australia to deliver clean, clear water to the community of Adelaide River.”
The plant was delivered through a joint venture between French company Suez Environnement and Goodline.
Northern Territory Minister for Environment, Gary Higgins, said the water treatment method had been used widely in Europe and North America.
“Nothing gives you greater pleasure that to celebrate a piece of important infrastructure in your electorate,” Higgins said.
“And there’s the added bonus of the plant using some amazing techniques to deliver a quality product for the community.”
The advantage of the method is that it can be scaled or downsized as necessary.
