Major upgrades to Dundee and Shady Camp fishing spots

Posted On February 26, 2016

The Northern Territory government has announced major upgrades to two of the most popular fishing spots.

Minister for Infrastructure, Peter Chandler, said $4.5 million will be invested into the Dundee Beach upgrade, with $2 million to be spent on boat ramp construction at Shady Camp.

“The Dundee Beach upgrade will see the construction of an 80-metre concrete self-launch boat ramp built alongside an extended rock groyne which will provide greater shelter from onshore winds and swell,” Chandler said.

“Vitally for users, once completed it will eliminate the current need for the commercial tractor launch service to access the water, removing the cost for users and significantly cutting back waiting times.”

The Shady Camp upgrade will include the construction of a 50-metre extension to the boat ramp with a slip resistant concrete surface.

Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries, Gary Higgins, said disruption would be minimal for anglers during construction.

“These improvements will enhance the overall experience of fishing in the Territory which is already one of the most popular pastimes enjoyed widely across the NT,” Higgins said.

“This investment by the Country Liberals government will also make sure the growing needs of the Territory’s fishing and boating community are met now and in the future.”

The works are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
