The Northern Territory government is dedicating $2 million towards upgrading schools in the Arnhem region.
Minister for Education, Peter Chandler, said the investment would enhance learning environments for students and communities.
“The education projects were identified by schools as current priorities to improve the learning environment for their students,” Chandler said.
“The Boosting Our Economy package will provide a sustained pipeline of works for local small to medium businesses, driving a much needed boost to the Territory economy.”
The upgrades come as part of the Northern Territory $100 million ‘Boosting Our Economy’ package.
Six schools in the Arnhem region will receive funding as part of this package, including Nhulunbuy Primary School, Numbalwar School and Umbakumba School.
Principal of Angurugu, Ben Slocombe, said the project would involve the enlarging of classroom sizes to increase learning productivity.
“The project aligns to our school values - we are safe, we are learners, we are respectful and we are proud,” Slocombe said.
“Repainting the front office will create a welcoming entrance and make the students, parents and community proud of our school.”
The Minister for Education will be visiting schools to discuss the works with school principals.
