Taminmin College $10 million upgrade

Posted On May 13, 2016

The Northern Territory government has dedicated $10 million towards a new two-storey facility at Taminmin College.

Minister for Education, Peter Chandler, said the new facilities would support students at the college.

“The two storey building will include state of the art science equipment and eight additional classrooms, increasing the school’s capacity to cater for 1500 students, accommodating the continued growth in student numbers at Taminmin College,” Chandler said.

“This project will not only produce educational benefits, but will also provide local jobs to Territorians and a substantial contribution to the Northern Territory economy.”

The building will include eight new science labs and eight additional classrooms for students and teachers.

Principal of Taminmin College, Miriam McDonald, said the investment came as part of the Northern Territory 2016-17 Budget.

“The state of the art science equipment and facilities will enable the college to further grow science in the Top End as well as further integrate aquaculture and proposed aquaponics programs, linking to real jobs for Territory students,” McDonald said.

“Taminmin College’s School Council is delighted that the Northern Territory government is investing in public education, providing greater opportunity for rural students to succeed.”

Construction is expected to be completed early 2018.
