The Northern Territory government has announced more than $6 million worth of contracts to upgrade and build Dundee and Shady Camp boat ramps.
Minister for Infrastructure, Peter Chandler, said the projects had been awarded in May.
“Vitally for users, once completed it will eliminate the current need for the commercial tractor launch service to access the water, removing the cost for users and significantly cutting back waiting times,” Chandler said.
“Works at Shady Camp will involve a 50-metre extension to the boat ramp with a slip resistant concrete surface. The parking area will be sealed and improved with 60 marked car and trailer bays.”
The Dundee Beach upgrade will foresee the construction of an 80-metre concrete self-launch boat ramp.
Minister for Primary Industry and Fisheries, Gary Higgins, said fishing disruptions would be minimal for anglers.
“These improvements will enhance the overall experience of fishing in the Territory which is already one of the most popular pastimes enjoyed widely across the NT,” Higgins said.
“This investment by the Country Liberals government will also make sure the growing needs of the Territory’s fishing and boating community are met now and in the future.”
The upgrades are expected to be completed early 2017.
