The Northern Territory government has released a $500 million plan to deliver hundreds of new homes and thousands of housing upgrades.
Chief Minister, Adam Giles, said the plan would transform the approach towards community housing.
“With this strategy, my government has laid down a pathway for delivering safe, secure and affordable housing for Territorians over the next five years,” Giles said.
“Suitable housing is fundamental to the well-being of every Territorian, helping them to raise healthy families, participate in work and enjoy social activities in their community.”
Entitled the HousingActionNT plan, the strategy will contain various approaches towards remote, urban and regional housing communities.
Minister for Housing, Bess Price, said almost $12 million has been dedicate towards housing works in Alice Springs.
“This remote housing strategy will not only result in new additional housing but also give Aboriginal people greater say and ownership of the remote housing system - from construction and design to tenancy and property management and jobs,” Price said.
The plan includes $350 million towards the construction of more than 380 new houses, as well as over 1000 upgrades over the next two years.
