Infrastructure investment is key priority at major projects conference

The Northern Territory Government has invested $1.7 billion in strategic infrastructure projects across the region to improve public facilities and create jobs.

Department of Infrastructure Chief Executive David McHugh will be addressing delegates at the 7th Annual NT Major Projects Conference in Darwin on the state of projects underway.

Other topics on the agenda include an investigation into re-energising mining and exploration in the NT. Ventures enabling this proposal, including the $100 million investment to reboot the NT mining sector and a future plan, will be presented by Minerals Council Australia Executive Director Drew Wagner to explore un-mined land.

The Northern Gas Pipeline will receive $800 million in investments, generating approximately 600 jobs, to enable the pipeline to run for 622km between Tennant Creek in the NT and Mount Isa in Queensland.

The completion timeline will be covered at the conference by NGP Project Director Jonathan Spink.

The conference will see opportunities to bid for the construction of the Darwin Ship Lift and Marine Industry Project. Darwin's East Arm will be home for marine maintenance and servicing facilities in Northern Australia and $100 million will be invested into the development of the required infrastructure which will see economic benefits for the defence, oil and gas, coastal barging and logistics sectors.

A $25 million expansion is set for Darwin Port, enabling increases in cargo volumes, bulk exports, imports and live cattle. Alongside the expansion, the newly joint between leaseholder Landbridge Group and the NT Government will ensure investment of over $500 million in new economic infrastructure that will benefit the community.

Held on November 8 and 9 at the Darwin Convention Centre, the NT Major Projects Conference will cover all the latest developments in the state through immersive and comprehensive presentations, panel discussions and Q&A sessions.
