The NT government have awarded management rights for the Wauchope Flats project to The Central Australian Affordable Housing Company.
The Wauchope Flats on Dixon Road consist of 17 housing units which are to be developed into social housing for seniors.
Minister for Housing, Bess Price, approved the Alice Springs based Indigenous community housing provider acquisition of the contract.
“The Central Australian Affordable Housing Company is held in high esteem through the local community and manages the seniors village at 19 Elliott Street, so they have the runs on the board”, Price said.
Management rights of the complex include rent and revenue collection, repairs, maintenance and tenancy management.
Development for the flats will include fencing, signage, security lighting and footpath upgrades to meet the needs of seniors.
“We are committed to developing a better and safer community housing sector to deliver quality social housing services in Central Australia, something that the sector and the Northern Territory Government have been strong advocates for,” she said.
The Central Australian Affordable Housing Company may also be applicable for access additional rent revenue through Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
The company will commence management of the complex next month once the contract and lease has been finalised.
