Construction works will pick up pace in Northern Territory in the coming months after the Northern Territory Government announced $5 million in extra funds will be made available for public housing works.
The funds come as part of the State Government’s ‘Immediate Works Stimulus Package’ that is helping to fund small projects that need to be completed before $120 million worth of fast tracked major projects begin.
Treasurer Nicole Manison officially announced several funding and grant packages that will immediately benefit construction workers in the region.
“Yesterday I announced $10 million towards community grant funding which enables community and not-for-profit groups to apply for funding for repairs and upgrades up to $100 000, with additional funding to be matched dollar for dollar by the NT Government, up to another $100 000.
“This not only helps local businesses and tradies in the immediate term, but also ensures Territorians have better community facilities and long term community assets.
“Today I am pleased to announce a further $5 million will flow to the construction sectors with funding for repairs and maintenance to urban public housing stock.
“This will provide an immediate injection into the economy with work to be carried out over the next six months, until our fast-tracked infrastructure funds start flowing into the construction sector to local tradies.”
It is expected that most of the small project works will begin in February of 2017.
