After eight highly successful years, the Annual Northern Territory Major Projects Conference is returning for its ninth year on the 17th and 18th of October 2018, at the Darwin Convention Centre.
With the NT Government having invested $1.7 billion into key infrastructure projects as part of their 10-year infrastructure plan, the conference will provide a platform to showcase the array of major infrastructure projects funded under this plan. It will also seek to explore how large-scale infrastructure projects in general can shape the Top End into a thriving, sustainable, and socially responsible Territory.
Expotrade are pleased to welcome NT’s Minister for Tourism and Culture, the Hon. Lauren Moss to the 9th Annual NT Major Projects Conference. Minister Moss will provide an address on the NT Government’s Turbocharging Tourism action plan, which aims to bring more visitors to the Territory while simultaneously improving its economy and increasing employment opportunities for Territorians.
As part of the action plan, $56.24 million is being invested in new tourism infrastructure to further improve the experiences of tourists travelling through the NT. The Minister will brief delegates attending the conference on the various major infrastructure projects taking form under Turbocharging Tourism; projects which present a number of opportunities to Territorians working within the construction and infrastructure sectors.
The Northern Territory component of the $600 million Northern Australia Roads Program will be explored in depth at the conference by Andrew Kirkman, CEO of the Territory’s Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics. Kirkman will outline the various upgrades the NT’S high-priority roads will receive thanks to the program, from the Buntine Highway road upgrade, to the flood immunity improvements being undertaken on the Plenty Highway.
Conference delegates will also enjoy updates on some of the Territory’s most significant current defence infrastructure projects, notably the Larrakeyah Barracks and HMAS Coonawarra redevelopments. With a combined value of $520 million, these projects will be highly significant for Australia’s defence industry, promising to improve and expand facilities for local and visiting defence personnel alike. The CEO of the Australian Industry & Defence Network NT, Kerryn Smith, will be returning to the conference this year to examine these transformative projects.
Professor Catherine Stoddart, CEO of the NT Department of Health, will provide a keynote presentation centring on the various health infrastructure projects set to positively impact the Territory’s medical facilities. The upgrades set to occur at the Royal Darwin Hospital, including the addition of a multistorey carpark and a new PET scanner, as well as the expansion of the Nightcliff renal facility, will take centre stage within Stoddart’s presentation.
The 9th Annual NT Major Projects Conference 2018 will also provide a wealth of opportunities for delegates and keynote speakers to network with each other, with the inclusion of Q&A sessions aimed at providing further insights on each of the aforementioned projects.
An interactive panel discussion on drawing workers to the NT with the aid of major infrastructure projects will round out the various opportunities provided for delegates and speakers to engage in mutually beneficial dialogue, ultimately centred around how the successful delivery of major infrastructure projects can help to ensure a vibrant and economically sustainable Territory.
